The ChefGail Fund (the “Fund”) was created to continue Gail Hall’s legacy under the auspices of the Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF). It will enhance the quality of life for those living in the Greater Edmonton area by supporting opportunities and/or programs that promote nutrition, wellness, healthy eating, and/or the development of cooking skills in young chefs.

The Fund raised over $25,000 in its first two years and contributed to the UofA Change Adventure Camp in 2017 and 2018. Gail designed the food program for the camp in its first trial year and the camp continues to teach children about healthy life choices related to attitude, activity, and healthy foods.

Gail’s Legacy

Gail Hall was an inspiration in the local food community. A chef, educator, media personality, and culinary tour leader, she supported and promoted healthy eating, local food producers and simple cooking skills. She built one of Canada’s largest independent catering companies, which employed over 100 servers and professional chefs, and started the Seasoned Solutions Loft Cooking School which taught over 2,000 students how to prepare fresh local foods for their families.

Gail was a popular guest on TV and served as the food columnist at CBC for five years. She taught at Metro Continuing Education for over 25 years. She was a presenter at Christmas in November in Jasper for 23 years. Her culinary tours ranged from a walk through a local market to two-week explorations of food production, culture, and cooking in dozens of international destinations. Gail spoke at conferences, judged cooking contests, and inspired female entrepreneurs throughout the province.

Gail passed away on November 16, 2016 of respiratory failure linked to cancer. Gail was out-going, optimistic, and cheerful until her last breath. Like a rock thrown into a pond, Gail’s legacy ripples out into the Edmonton community.
